Can you muster the courage to try this fairground’s new wine of choice?
Fletcher’s Corny Dogs announced it will be offering its infamous mustard-flavored beer at the State Fair of Texas for the first time this year.
The beer was first brewed in 2023 in collaboration with Fort Worth’s Martin House Brewing for its second annual Glizzy Fest. It contains 5.5% alcohol by volume, which is equivalent to one can of Stella Artois.
The Fletcher family has been a staple of the State Fair since 1942, where they premiered their namesake corny dogs. Their decision to include unconventional beers in their lineup is in line with Martin House’s tendency to try and disregard, or in some cases violate, their customers’ palettes.
Martin House strives to introduce some strange wines to the public. In the past, the brewery has also created its own, ranging from hot dog water-flavored seltzer elf-Themed beer inspired by Buddy the Elf’s favorite food: cold spaghetti topped with maple syrup and M&Ms.
Fletcher has always preferred mustard over ketchup, even refusing to offer tomato-based condiments as an option at fairs until 1994, according to him. website,
In 2023 alone, Fletcher sold over half a million of his mutton dogs. According to the Fletcher’s Corny Dogs website, approximately 500,000 are sold annually during the fair’s 24 days.
