Wakadu. This is actually happening to real life. Bluey will be made into a feature length film with the Brisbane-based Heeler family in what is sure to be a global cinematic juggernaut.
The film will be produced by the original Blue creatorsLudo Studios has a little Disney magic sprinkled in and is scheduled to release in 2027.
I think all of us parents of kids hoped and dreamed that this day would come.

After repeatedly watching seven-minute episodes, with the premiere of ‘The Sign’ earlier this year, we got a 28-minute story.
The whole world (under the age of six) was captivated by the danger of Bluey and his sister Bingo packing up and moving away from their beloved Queensland base.
Will they leave the family home for Dad, the Bandit, to start a new job interstate or not? It was an emotional rollercoaster and there was enough material to whet our appetite for a longer adventure.
According to the official release, the animated film will “continue the adventures of Blue, a lovable, unbreakable, Blue Heeler dog who lives with his mom, dad, and his little sister, Bingo.”
There aren’t too many clues on the plot, but judging by the three seasons released so far, the content will be relevant, entertaining for kids, and informative for adults.
I think I learned more about parenting from Bandit and Chili than from any standard book about parenting.
The production will be mostly local, with 130 jobs being created in Queensland to bring the fantasy world of Bluey to life, but I’m willing to bet the cast will be international.
Bluey was the most watched series globally on Disney+ in 2024, which means any star with young children is a die-hard fan.
Rose Byrne had already voiced Steve’s older sister, Brandy, in one episode, Joel Edgerton had an excellent performance as a German Shepherd policeman in ‘The Sign’ and Natalie Portman in a whale documentary. Eva Mendes played a glamorous canine yoga instructor, maybe Ryan Gosling is going to play a burly Great Dane?
There’s only one catch.
Bluey’s creator, Joe Brumm, has already written to fans to tell them the bad news.
While the film is in production, there will be no season four and Brumm has sought time to write the TV show.
“After spending some time away from the series, working on another project, an old idea resurfaced and before I knew it, I had written a Blue Features script that I really love. Fast forward through a ton of contracts and we’re going to make an animated Blue movie”, he wrote on the official Blue website.
“Now, for the hard part”, he continued.
“I’ve always said that if I feel like I can’t make any new season as good as the last one, I won’t make the show. This would have been the situation for me with a potential season four, so I have decided to take a break from my involvement in the TV series. If I am unable to do more seasons myself, The Sign will mark my TV finale for Blue and that’s how I wrote it.’
This is not the end of the show but the end of Joe’s involvement. He based Bluey on his own children and how they are now grown up.
So will the same happen with Bluey and Bingo? A teenage Blue Heeler battling the pressures of social media and high school probably isn’t as enjoyable as building cube houses and fairies in the backyard.
By the time the blue film comes out, my own children will be six and four years old.
We just came back from Blue’s World, we already have bags, socks, pajamas, sheets, sticker books, posters and we would even willingly hand over our dollar bucks for popcorn and Gold Class tickets.
Let’s go healers. Hollywood here we come.
