Brittany DeLena, bride, of Fresno, California Repurposing a Third-Generation Wedding Dress Transformed into a two-piece set from her grandmother. A paisley print-covered vintage ivory gown, originally worn by her grandmother and then passed down to her mother, was transformed into Delena's rehearsal dress.
“This dress is about 50 years old, and it has some pieces where my grandmother and her mother-in-law sewed beads on,” Delfina told the Post.
In a clip that resurfaced online On her TikTokIn a video that has over 13.4 million views, the bride walks inside the church and explains how she transformed the old heirloom into something new.
“I knew she would be in total shock and I knew she would love it no matter what I did with it,” he said.
As she walks in, her grandmother exclaims, “Oh my god!”, as she is shocked that her granddaughter is wearing that outfit.
“She was proud to have it used on such a special occasion, and it meant more to her that I used it rather than having it sit in a box for many years,” he said.
The two embrace each other, and her grandmother is surprised by the secret and begins to cry tears of joy.
“My plan was always to use this dress and have it as a one-piece. Since I wanted it for rehearsals, a shorter version seemed like the best option,” Delina said.
The bride admitted she's smaller than her mother and grandmother, so she'll have to make significant alterations to the dress if she wants it to fit like a glove.
“The seamstress had to take the bodice apart into two pieces to adjust it to my waist,” she said. “When I tried it on in two pieces I felt it was closer to my style and I instantly fell in love with the new design.”
Over the generations, the dress has undergone changes that suit each bride's style.
Although her grandmother had purchased the wedding dress as a long-sleeved dress with a high neckline, Delena's mother had it tailored with a sweetheart neckline and short sleeves with beaded embellishments.
