A Burger King fan can really have it their way.
The fast-food chain launched a contest in February in which fans could submit their own Whopper recipes — and now customers can try the finalist recipes for themselves.
BK Million Dollar Whopper Contest held for the first time Burger lovers were seen submitting ingredients for their dream Whopper for the chance to win $1 million and see their sandwich sold out at restaurants across the country for a limited time.
Now, Burger King and its “team of flame-grilled experts” have selected three finalists after reviewing more than 1 million submissions from guests who “let their imagination run wild.”
The three fan-created Whoppers will be available at participating restaurants nationwide later this fall, and diners will be able to vote for their favorite. The finalist with the most votes for their million-dollar idea will win the grand prize.
The finalists were selected as follows:
- Fried Pickle Ranch Whopper: A quarter-pound beef patty served on a toasted sesame seed bun with pickle ranch, lettuce, fried pickles, bacon, and Swiss cheese. Made by Fabian's of California.
- Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper: A quarter-pound beef patty topped with maple bourbon BBQ sauce, crispy onions and jalapenos, maple bacon seasoning, bacon, and American cheese served on a toasted sesame seed bun. Created by Calvin's of California.
- Mexican Street Corn Whopper: A quarter-pound beef patty served on a toasted sesame seed bun with street corn spread, lettuce, tomato, Southwest seasoned tortilla crisps, and Mexican spicy queso. Created by Kelsey's of Nebraska.
“The Million Dollar Whopper Contest was intended to take 'Have It Your Way' to the next level, and we were amazed by the thought and creativity put into the Whopper creations,” said Pat O'Toole, chief marketing officer, Burger King North America. A statement said,
“Selecting just three finalists was no easy task, but we're confident guests will love these creative, delicious variations of the iconic Whopper sandwich, and we can't wait to have them available in restaurants this fall.”
