Hanabi Lager Co. launched a new bougie beer — and bottles of the “grain-forward lager” are being sold for $20 each, so a six-pack will cost a surprising $120, SF gate reported,
The company states, “This is the best beer we’ve ever made, and it tastes just like home.” its websiteCiting their seasonal addition, San Juan Island Beer, which is made from “ancient” barley grown organically in Washington’s San Juan Islands.

The outlet reports, “Each beer he brews features the same heritage grains, painstakingly crafted and cared for, just like the great wines of the world. There are varieties of grapes.”
In late 2020, Gislason launched its first beer, which sold for $90 per six-pack – $15 per bottle, excluding shipping costs. Since it was classified as a Pilsner, it was expected to be priced at $1 per can.
Now, Hanabi’s beer can sell out in just an hour, the outlet said.
A reporter at SF Gate was there for the release of San Juan Island Beer at Admiral Maltings in Alameda, and enjoyed the pricey brew.
“My first sip opened and closed with clear bitterness, like a song that begins with a note on the piano keys. “There was no strong flavor, no bitterness like a sour beer or a strong IPA aroma,” he said.
“I tried to take another sip, and then another, and the beer started to have a fragrant mint flavor. There was a subtlety to it that I think a lot of people would probably miss. But I kept drinking, trying to figure out the story of the beer, and then before I knew it, my glass was empty.’
