Twenty-seven years ago, audiences across the country flocked to single-screen theatres to take in one of the biggest Indian army movies in Bollywood history. With a star-cast of Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty and Akshaye Khanna, Border, a 1997 film that chronicled the events of the 1971 Battle of Longewala, offered also a peek into the challenging lives of army officers, and the heartbreaking sacrifices they had to make in the line of duty. And now, going by a post by Sunny Deol himself, a sequel is in the cards, with the former reprising his role as Major Kuldeep Singh.
In the video, the actor is heard saying: “27 saal pehle ek fauji ne vada kiya tha ki vo vapas aayega. Ussi vaade ko poora karne, Hindustan ki mitti ko apna salaam kehne, aa raha hai (27 years ago, a soldier made a promise that he would return. To fulfil that promise, and to salute the soil of India, he is returning).” Border 2, whose full cast is yet to be announced, will be directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar , Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta & Nidhi Dutta. While we wait for more details about the sequel to get unveiled, here’s a look at a few other captivating Indian army movies that turn the spotlight on the army officers who have to face two different sorts of battle: one on the warfront, and the other, within their mind.
