Carrie Bickmore breaks down live on air

An emotional Carrie Bickmore has broken down live on radio, revealing she has had a lot of “bad days” recently.

The TV personality and radio host was chatting on Tuesday with UK singer Raye when she made the surprise admission.

Raye, whose hit songs include Flip A Switch and Escapism, was visiting the HIT Network studio as part of a promotional tour of Australia.

Carrie & Tommy Show co-host Tommy Little said he thought a visit from Raye might cheer Bickmore up, because his colleague was a huge fan of the British singer.

In fact, Little said, three of the radio host’s top five most-played songs on Spotify last year were by Raye.

“(She) had a crap week last week and we thought, instead of telling her you’re going to be here, we could make it a surprise,” Little told Raye.

“Hi Carrie, how are you doing?” Raye said.

“I just want to thank you for having great taste in music.”

Bickmore, who was still blindfolded, said: “I know who this is and I love it so much!”

Raye’s song Ice Cream Man was then played, containing the lyrics: “Cause I’m a woman/ I’m a very f****** brave strong woman/ And I’ll be damned if I let a man ruin how I walk, how I talk.”

The song prompted a flurry of emotion from Bickmore, who became teary.

“It’s making me cry!” she said.

“It makes me absolutely so emotional when I’m having a s*** day, and there’s a lot of them.

“I’m like, ‘F*** you!’,” she added.

Whilst Bickmore has recently been living it up on holiday in Bali, she didn’t have the easiest 2023.

In January she announced that she had split from long-term partner Paul Walker, with whom she had two children.

“Hi there. It’s with immense sadness that Chris and I have decided to separate,” Bickmore in an Instagram post at the time.

“While this is a tough time, our focus is to concentrate on parenting, loving and supporting our three amazing children, Ollie, Evie and Addie, with everything we’ve got.

“They are doing great.

“We won’t be making any further comment at this stage.”

Bickmore met Walker, a television producer, two years after the loss of her husband Greg Lange to brain cancer.

Bickmore married Lange when she was 25 years old but he died five years later, aged 35.

They had one son together, Ollie, and Bickmore has two children with Walker.

She previously shared how Walker had supported her through the loss of Lange.

“He, like many people, understands loss and suffered his own loss in life and I think he just has a huge amount of compassion and he will always be incredibly supportive of me and for our family,” she told TV Week in 2020.

She has continued Lange’s legacy by founding her charity, Carrie’s Beanies for Brain Cancer, which she announced in May 2015, during her Gold Logies speech.
