Nev Schulman is feeling fatigued but thankful after nearly losing his life in a bike accident.
Earlier this month, the “Catfish” host, 39, revealed that he broke his neck and underwent emergency spine surgery. Schulman was riding his bike to his son’s school when a crash with a truck occurred.
He gave fans a health update on Tuesday, with an Instagram video of him walking on the street in a neck brace.
“It’s been two weeks since I broke my neck and had emergency spine surgery. I thought I’d hop on her and give you all a quick update,” Schulman said to the camera.
“As you can see, I’m up and about. I’m finishing a little neighborhood stroll which was recommended to me by my physical therapist to keep my body moving,” he explained. “Never had such fatigue from a ten minute walk, but I’m almost home now.”
Schulman went on, “I mainly just wanted to get on here to say thank you. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Stony Brook. Thank you to my family and friends for all the amazing support that I’ve been given and felt deeply for the past two weeks.”
The “Dancing With The Stars” finalist fought back tears as he also thanked his fans for showing support after the near-fatal accident.
“The support and love that I’ve been getting online has been really incredible and meant so much to me,” he said. “So thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
“If i learned anything in the last two weeks,” Schulman added, “it’s to really appreciate what you have because you can lose it in a second.
“You guys. are the best. I love you,” he said at the end of the video.
Schulman first posted about the accident on August 10. His Instagram started with a trigger warning for the footage of “medical trauma and severe injury.”
The dad of three shared pictures of the scans of his neck injury from the hospital, the surgery scar on the back of his neck and his broken helmet that he was wearing during the accident.
“I broke my neck,” Schulman began his caption. “C5 and C6 to be exact. Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS.”
He said that he was “lucky to be alive” after the accident, adding, “And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For the big and little things before the accident, and now everything moving forward.”
Schulman also shared photos of him with his wife Laura Perlongo and their children Cleo James, 7, Beau Bobby Bruce, 5, and Cy Monroe, 2, in his hospital room.
Perlongo took a video of her husband walking down the hospital hallway in his neck brace with a therapist beside him.
“I’ve never felt more dressed in my life,” Schulman joked in the footage.
