Chappell Roan Scores Her First No. 1 On Billboard’s Vinyl Chart

Chappell Roan’s rise to stardom is one of the biggest stories in the American music industry of 2024. The singer-songwriter spent years as an indie favorite, but without finding much commercial success. Now, her debut full-length has finally reached the top spot on one ranking she’s been climbing for months, as her popularity continues to grow.

Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess rises to No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart in America this week. The title is brand new to the throne, though it’s come very close to reaching the peak in the past.

Before this frame, the highest that The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess had climbed on Billboard’s list of the bestselling albums on vinyl was the runner-up space.

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess experiences quite a dramatic surge to the top spot on the Vinyl Albums ranking this frame. Last time around, Roan’s first full-length didn’t even appear inside the top 10. Now, it rockets from No. 12 to No. 1.

Billboard reports that in the past tracking period, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess sold 8,500 copies on vinyl alone. That sum is up a little more than 200% from the frame prior.

All those purchases are helping The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess on charts other than the one that focuses solely on vinyl. The title climbs to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 this frame. That’s a new peak for both Roan and the album on Billboard’s main albums list.

Last week, Taylor Swift ruled the Vinyl Albums tally with her latest set, The Tortured Poets Department. This frame, even the biggest artist in the world couldn’t compete with Roan. Coincidentally, it’s that lengthy project that keeps The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess from reaching the summit on the Billboard 200, at least for the time being.
