Cher is sharing some candid memories about growing up in Hollywood.
In an excerpt adapted from his new memoir, “Cher: The Memoir, Part One,” The 78-year-old legendary singer writes that she met Hollywood icon Warren Beatty, 87, when she was 15 and spent a night swimming in the actor’s pool until 4 a.m. wearing a Natalie Wood swimsuit.
what’s more, People recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame She says that she and Beatty kissed each other that fateful night before going on two more dates.
According to her memoir, Cher met Beatty one night in L.A. when he approached her while driving on Sunset Boulevard.
“Arriving in the parking lot of the famous Schwab Pharmacy, I jumped out and yelled, ‘What’s the matter with you? You almost killed me!'” Cher writes in the excerpt published by daily Mail,
“The guy was wearing big, black-framed sunglasses, but I can still say that he was incredibly handsome, with the sexiest smile I had ever seen. When he took off his glasses, I realized it was Warren Beatty.
Beatty, then 24, had recently starred in the film “Splendor in the Grass” with Natalie Wood, who was married at the time but was having an affair with the actor.
Cher recalled, “Ten years older than me, Warren was so handsome that I had to steady myself when he asked my name.”
When Beatty reportedly asked her if she wanted to “get something to eat,” the Oscar winner was “hesitating” at first.
“It was close to my curfew, and I was already worried I’d be late but then I thought about what a big fan of mine my mom was, so I shrugged and said, ‘Sure,'” she recalled.
But Cher actually swooned when Beatty reportedly invited her over to his place. He added, “My knees almost buckled before her charm and that smile – a devastating combination.” But he shrugged off any hesitation he had and told her, “Okay.”
After following BT in her own car to her “beautiful house with an amazing pool in Beverly Hills”, she says things got a little romantic.
“He showed me inside, put out some cheese and crackers for us, then leaned in and kissed me.”
She added, “Now, this is interesting, I thought as I kissed her back.”
Cheese, crackers and a kiss then reportedly turned into an all-night pool party.
Cher continued, “We both went swimming with me in Natalie Wood’s bathing suit and we had a great time.” “Later I went home happy at 4 in the morning and found mother [step-father] gilbert [LaPiere] Standing at the door in my night clothes, angry that I had violated my curfew again.”
When Beatty calls her the next morning and asks her out for dinner, Cher shushes him, fully aware that her mother is eavesdropping on her call.
After the “Shampoo” star suggested she go swimming, Cher says she laughed “at his random suggestion.”
She added, “I didn’t want him to know how young I was or how grounded I was, so I told him, ‘My mom lives with me because I get home late, so I’m not going anywhere. Am.” ,
“Let me talk to your mother,” he laughed. I wish I had a picture of the look on her face when she realized who she was talking to. She literally melted before my eyes and was lost in herself when I planned to meet her.
According to Cher, when she left for her next date her mother whispered to her, “You’ve got to tell me everything!”
Cher “enjoyed [Beatty’s company]” and went on two more dates with her. But shortly after, she met her future husband and collaborator Sonny Bono, with whom she was last seen when Beatty called her.
“Do you want to go to dinner?” Cher remembered him asking.
“‘Well, I have a boyfriend,’ I said.” To which BT responded, “Okay, do you want to go for lunch?”
Cher said, “It was very sweet and so was he.”
On why her mother allowed her to date a man nine years her senior when she was only 15, Cher writes, “No other mother could have prevented me from meeting the man who was in Hollywood. Was notorious for sleeping with almost every woman in (and new) America. York, and Paris, and London, and Kuala Lumpur). But I never had a normal childhood.”
The Post has reached out to Beatty’s representatives.
