Cher is not shying away from talking about her ‘Mask’ director Peter Bogdanovich.
In a new interview with The Times UKCher, 78, said the late Bogdanovich was one of two directors she “didn’t like” working with.
“That was an ass,” the “Believe” singer said. “He was not treating the girls well in the film and was very arrogant. I really disliked him a lot.”
Bogdanovich directed the 1985 biographical film about a boy named Roy Lee “Rocky” Dennis who had a rare genetic disorder.
Cher, who starred in the film alongside Sam Elliott, Eric Stoltz and Laura Dern, recalled an unpleasant conversation she had with Bogdanovich on set.
“He comes in and says, ‘Cher, where do you think we should film this scene?’ And I say, ‘Well, the kitchen’s working great, why don’t we do that again?'” she recalled. “The next morning he comes on set eating an egg sandwich, and starts yelling that He won’t let me direct this film; I am nobody; he can cut me off at any moment.”
“Oh yes, he was a pig,” Cher said.
Bogdanovich, who Died in 2022 at the age of 82had previously said that Cher was the most difficult actor he had ever worked with.
The director explained, “Well, she didn’t trust anyone, especially men.” vulture In 2019. “She doesn’t like men. That’s why she was named Cher: she removed her father’s name. Sarkeesian, this is. She can’t act.”
When Bogdanovich was asked what Cher thought of her, she replied, “Cher doesn’t like me.”
“Well, because I didn’t like him,” she explained. “She always looked like someone was cheating on her. I came to the set one day; I said, ‘You disappoint me, you’re always so disappointed and act like someone is stealing from you or something.’ But eventually, after about seven weeks, we started liking each other. She said, You know, if we’re not careful, we might start liking each other. I said it would be amazing.”
“And we ended up liking each other, and then when I sued the studio, she definitely sided with the studio. that was that.”
In her Times UK interview, Cher said that her other least favorite director is Frank Oz, with whom she worked on 1990’s “Mermaids”.
Of Oz, 80, she said, “I actually fired that guy from The Muppets. I said, ‘Either you’re leaving or I’m leaving,’ which is a shame because he really was a Nice director, but he had one thing to say about me, ‘At least my wife loves me!’
The “Strong Enough” singer continued, “Ask everyone: I’m really easy to work with. I’m not arbitrary in what I say, because it’s okay to do what you say unless you need to.” Whatever the director wants. [Streep] Say if the director wants you to do something you don’t like, you say: Yes, yes, yes, I’ll do it that way. Then you do it your own way and they don’t even know.”
“I’ve worked with Bob Altman, Mike Nichols, Norman Jewison…really great directors who I respect. I know when to listen,” she added.

“I didn’t know if it was healing or not,” she said Entertainment Weekly about writing “Cher: The Memoir.” “When I was talking about it, it was just upsetting and exhausting. I just kept thinking, ‘I don’t want to do this.’ Then, something really fun will happen, and I’ll say, ‘Okay, I can do this.’ But this is not an easy thing.”
