Dramatic video captures the moment a US Coast Guard helicopter crew pulled a sick cruise ship passenger from the deck of a boat 70 miles off the coast of Hawaii – one of a string of rescues in the span of two hours.
The 29-year-old woman, who was suffering from symptoms of appendicitis, was examined on board the Grand Princess cruise ship on Monday evening, with medical staff recommending she be evacuated from the ship. The Coast Guard said in a press release,
Shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter encountered the ship about 70 miles east of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and airlifted the patient to the helicopter.
The woman, who was not identified, was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where she was listed in stable condition, the Coast Guard said.
These high-flying heroes came just hours after a separate Coast Guard helicopter A 39-year-old man, who had recently suffered a stroke, was pulled from a nearby oil tanker California.
In that case, shortly after noon Tuesday an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from San Diego to a Polaris Voyager tanker about 30 miles off the coast of Oceanside.
Dramatic footage shows the patient being pulled onto the chopper on a stretcher.
The man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and was reported in stable condition.
