A repentant thief returned a porcelain baby Jesus to a Colorado fire station with a chicken-scratch note apologizing for the “stupid mistake.”
The iconic baby Jesus had been missing from the Nativity scene in Fort Collins, Co.’s Old Town Square since Dec. 17 — but it was returned by an unknown thief just in time for the religious holiday. According to Fox9,
Fort Collins police initially kept out photo of blonde charlatan Allegedly caught in the act of stealing a ceramic depiction of the Savior from a traditional holiday decoration set piece from the small town square.
A few days later the statue was returned to the Poudre Fire Authority with a written note.
“I’m really sorry, I made a stupid mistake that time. This will not happen again,” the half-hearted apology letter reads.
Some fingers of the statue appear to be broken.
According to the report, officials are not sure whether damage was caused during smuggling or not.
According to Fox9, police said no further information is known about the thief.
