Conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel break silence after surprise wedding news

Conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel first stepped into the spotlight when they appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show in 1996.

That was followed by the 2012 reality TV series Abby & Brittany — and now they’re back in the spotlight again.

It recently emerged that one of the twins, Abby, got married in 2021, to army veteran and nurse Josh Bowling.

The news they were married was not publicly known until last week, when TODAY.com reported the story.

That prompted some thoughtless chatter in some corners of the internet — and resulted in Abby sending a very blunt message to the critics.

Taking to social media, she posted a clip of her and Josh on their wedding day with the voiceover: “This is a message to all the haters out there.”

“If you don’t like what I do, but watch everything I’m doing, you’re still a fan.”

Abby and Brittany are dicephalus conjoined twins, meaning they share the same bloodstream and all organs below the waist.

However, they each have their own heart, lungs, and spinal cord.

Abby controls their right arm and leg, while Brittany controls the left.

Born in 1990, the twins’ parents decided against separation surgery, after doctors said there was little chance both would survive the operation.

Now 34, the twins live in their hometown of Minnesota with Bowling, and where they work as school teachers.

But it seems some of their followers were perplexed by how the marriage actually worked once the news appeared online.

After some cruel comments were left on one of the twins’ posts, they reminded followers that conjoined twins had “always been around”.

“The internet is extra LOUD today,” they wrote, showing historical photographs, paintings and figurines of conjoined twins.

Many of the twins’ followers congratulated them on calling out the haters, while others were genuinely curious.

“Love it. But please explain how this works,” one follower wrote.

“What happens if (Brittany) wants to get married?” asked another.

“I have so many questions!”

“No, but I’m just confused,” said a third.

“I know what y’all are thinking.

“I’m thinking it too.

“Maybe we shouldn’t ask.”

Others advised the twins to “ignore the noise”.

“You don’t need to explain anything,” one fan said.

“Live your best life!”

“I have like 50 million questions but I’m just gonna zip it and say congratulations!” said another.

“The happiness speaks for itself.”

“I’ve met them, they’re so unbelievably kind and hilarious,” added a third.

“This makes me so happy.”
