a couple who Different proposals planned The two surprised each other as they got down on one knee at the same time.
Rachel Hundertmark, 36, had been planning to propose to her partner, Rashad Polk, 41, at a music festival for months.
The couple shared their first kiss at a Modest Mouse gig in 2021 and Rachel wanted to propose marriage at the same concert three years later.
So on June 14, Rachel and Rashad headed to the event with their friends, family and Rachel’s daughter, 16-year-old Jasmine Halstead.
Rachel had a ring in her pocket and was ready to ask the big question – little did she know that Rashad had the same plan.
The two had told Jasmine they were planning to get down on one knee – which meant the teenager had to keep both secrets without spoiling the surprise.
Rachel got down on one knee first, and as Rashad watched, he did the same – it was a heartwarming moment – and Jasmine was on hand to capture the whole thing on camera.
Rachel, a full-time computer studies student from Baltimore City, Maryland, US, said: “I never wanted to get married before because I thought it was too traditional, but I decided I wanted to marry Rashad.
“However, I wanted to take a less traditional approach to the proposal.
“I wanted to get down on one knee to make him feel like a prince, just like he makes me feel like a princess.
“I knew I wanted to, but I didn't expect him to propose to me – we were so shocked by what happened that neither of us even thought about saying 'yes'.”
Rachel and Rashad first met in 2019 through work but lost touch due to the pandemic but reconnected in 2021.
They kissed for the first time at a concert and both realised its significance when they went to see the band again in June.
Both had been planning the proposal separately for months, but neither of them expected it from the other.
Meanwhile, Jasmine knew that both of them had the same plan.
He said everything went well on the day and they have set a wedding date in September 2025.
Photographer Rashad said: “Everything went great that day, even the weather was perfect. It was an amazing moment.
“It was so surreal – it felt like an out-of-body feeling.
“It’s good that he proposed first, because I was waiting for a specific song before he proposed, and they didn’t even play the song I was waiting for.
“The song we proposed to her with, Dashboard, will definitely be played at our wedding.
“I don’t think anybody thought it would be exactly like this, but it was perfect.
“And in the car on the way home, Bruno Mars' song 'Marry You' was playing on the radio, which was really nice.”
