Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Chronicle’ Is A Bestseller In America Once Again

For many legacy acts, their top-performing album in America is their greatest hits compilation. That makes sense, as the masses want access to the singles they know and love. In today’s all-streaming music industry, it’s even easier for collections of popular songs to remain on the charts, as they’re powered by huge hits, which regularly rack up plays on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

Streams are only partially responsible for the ongoing success enjoyed by Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits. While Americans do press play on some of the group’s most memorable tunes—such as “Have You Ever Seen The Rain,” “Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Fortunate Son,” among others—they’re also interested in buying the compilation as well.

Chronicle returns to Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart this week. The set reappears on the list of the bestselling full-lengths and EPs in the country at No. 48. It narrowly breaks back onto the ranking, which only features 50 spaces, but landing on the ranking in any slot is impressive after so many years selling well in the U.S.

In the past tracking week, Luminate reports that Chronicle sold just under 2,400 copies in America. That’s up more than 16% from the frame prior, and it proved to be just enough for the rock band to find their way back to this list.

As it returns to the Top Album Sales chart, Chronicle is climbing on every other Billboard tally it appears on this week. The compilation rises on four lists, even managing to re-enter the loftiest tier on more than one of them.

Chronicle lifts more than 10 spots on the Billboard 200 this frame. The hits-packed album shoots from No. 41 to No. 30 on the ranking of the most-consumed projects in the country. Looking at all forms of consumption, the singles set shifted a little less than 19,500 equivalent units. That number is up more than 4% from the previous period.

Creedence Clearwater Revival is also gaining ground on three other rankings. Chronicle pushes from No. 36 to No. 31 on the Top Streaming Albums list, nearing its No. 28 peak. It’s also a top 10 winner once again on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. On the former, it re-enters the region by shooting from No. 13 to No. 8. On the latter, it improves from No. 10 to No. 5.
