DC server fired for refusing to serve Trump officials

A Washington, DC-area restaurant server has been fired after she apparently refused to serve incoming Trump administration officials.

Susanna Van Rooy, a server at the Beuchert Salon on Capitol Hill, told The Washingtonian this week, “I would personally refuse to serve anyone in office who I know is a sex trafficker or a money-lender of millions. Is trying to deport.” “It’s not, ‘Oh, we hate Republicans.’ The point is that this person’s moral beliefs are completely contrary to my own, and I don’t feel comfortable serving him.”

His comments were part of a report about whether there would be local “resistance” from some people to Trump when he is in a public setting again after several high-profile incidents during his first term. They also included then colleagues Sarah Huckabee Sanders being escorted out of a restaurant in LexingtonVA, and the protesters then came in droves—Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen At a DC Mexican establishment.

“At first people were much more motivated to do these kinds of shows of passion. This time, there is a sense of defeat and acceptance, Van Rooy said, according to the Washingtonian. “But I hope people will still stand up to this administration and let them know their views on their abuses.”

According to a review on his LinkedIn page on Friday, which has since been removed, Van Rooy’s duties included daily operations, messaging strategies for restaurants, developing relationships with influencers and in-house marketing for political figures and VIPs. Told to manage programs. ,

His page also says he worked as an organizer for Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s unsuccessful 2022 run for governor.

Butchert’s Salon told Fox News Digital that Van Rooy’s comments were “reprehensible” and that he was fired for violating its “zero-tolerance policy on discrimination.”

Beuchert said the former employee was a part-time server and not a manager. After learning of this on Thursday, it issued statements on social media condemning his comments.

“The recent comments made by a member of staff who does not have the authority to speak on behalf of our entire restaurant have, rightly, been flagged as inappropriate, hostile, intolerant and unacceptable. This staff member does not speak for us as a restaurant,” Beuchert’s initial statement Thursday said.

“After opening in January, we will begin serving our fourth administration on Capitol Hill as a neighborhood restaurant that is open to all and welcomes all. We have always been a safe place for everyone. Everyone, especially anyone who feels prejudiced or misunderstood, will always find friendly service and a sympathetic hearing at Beuchert’s Salon. Again, we deeply apologize for the comments made by a member of staff. They are not representative of our restaurants and do not reflect how we operate as a business, and how proud we are to be a gathering place on Capitol Hill.

By Friday, the restaurant said it had decided to fire the server because of the incident, calling his comments and subsequent behavior “inexcusable.” It also said she had signed up to the restaurant’s social media accounts to speak on its behalf without permission.

“Not only do Ms. Van Rooy’s comments clearly violate our zero-tolerance policy on discrimination, but she has the power to sign up to our social media accounts in the middle of the night to post her own rhetoric in wildly aggressive responses to the comments. His decision is yet another breach of conduct and protocol. He has no authority to speak on our behalf, and his comments do not reflect the position of the more than twenty people on our staff,” Friday’s statement said.

“For these reasons, as well as the disappointment and disgust we feel at her inexcusable behavior, Ms. Van Rooy has been terminated immediately. Our employees and families (many of whom were personally hurt by Ms. Van Rooy’s comments about them) are still recovering from what Ms. Van Rooy said and did, and as a restaurant we are free from base bias. Afraid of being connected.

The comment urged the entire restaurant not to blame him for his evil actions.

“We are still the same restaurant known for our warm service and friendly staff, and hope to see you all visit us soon. We look forward to serving you. All of you,” it reads.
