DaBaby has launched a new mental health initiative in honor of his late brother, Media Take Out has confirmed.
Launched during Suicide Prevention Month, DaBaby Cares aims to “raise awareness and eliminate stigma around mental health through the Glen Johnson for Mental Health Initiative.”
The rapper lost his brother Glen Johnson to suicide in 2020 and is now using his reach and his platform to launch a community resource tool that is providing vital mental health resources to young individuals.
In a statement to Media Take Out, DaBaby reflected on the tragic loss of his brother and explained the need for the program.
“On November 3, 2020, my brother Glenn Johnson committed suicide, leaving behind 3 beautiful daughters and a wonderful son,” she wrote. “I believe the world would see far fewer of these tragedies if more true resources existed to support mental health awareness and self-love.”
DaBaby expressed his devotion to providing “the necessary tools to deal with mental health issues” and “breaking the long-running cycle of mental illness in minority communities and normalizing the conversation around mental health.”
