A Texas police officer was blinded in both eyes when a gunman shot her multiple times — including in her face — during a targeted, execution-style shooting. Killing of another officer
Dallas Police Senior Corporal Carissa David was discharged from the hospital Sept. 19, where her family said she would remain in outpatient care for several months.
David was shot and critically wounded by 30-year-old Cori Cobb-Bey in the parking lot of the Oak Cliff Community Campus on Aug. 29.

Police said officers were sent to the community center in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive after dispatchers received an “unusual transmission” from Officer Burke's radio just after 10 p.m.
Senior Corporal Jamie Farmer arrived first and was immediately hit by gunfire from Cobb-Bey, who was armed with a 9mm handgun, a .22 caliber handgun, and two shotguns.
Farmer returned fire and ran into the parking lot, where Cobb-Bey picked up a shotgun and fired one shot, striking Farmer in the leg.
Cobb-Bey then ran toward David's car, which was parked at the parking lot entrance, and began firing multiple shots as she exited her vehicle.
David fired back but was shot in the face.
As the gunman pursued the officers, the three injured officers were taken to a hospital, where Burks was pronounced dead.
David was initially described as stable but serious, and Farmer was treated and discharged the following day.
David's family said, “She is currently blind in both eyes and we constantly pray for a miracle in this regard.” Shared on GoFundMe page,
David, who recently married her husband Josh, is expected to be back in hospital soon for a “major surgery”.
The family's fundraising campaign has raised nearly $84,000, and the money will be used to improve the newlyweds' home and purchase equipment needed to cope with David's vision loss.
“There are AI glasses, seeing-eye dogs, screen readers, smart appliances and many other gadgets that will improve his life going forward,” the family said.
Cobb-Bey was killed by police in Louisville, 25 miles from the shooting scene, when he got out of his car and pointed a gun at pursuing officers.
He was shot multiple times and was declared dead at the scene.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said Burke was “murdered” in a targeted attack
“Our officers were targeted simply because of the uniform they wear and the brave and honorable work they do,” he said. “Let me be clear here, the term ambush has been used a lot in the last 24 hours. That is not what happened here. Officer Burke was killed.”
