Dave Grohl hit a rough patch in his relationship with his wife Jordyn Blum years before he even put a ring on it.
The 55-year-old Foo Fighters frontman left Bloom after a few dates, until his late bandmate Taylor Hawkins' 2001 overdose convinced him to settle down. Hawkins tragically died more than 20 years later in 2022 at the age of 50.
This is the latest revelation following Grohl's brutal admission that he cheated on Blum and has a daughter with another woman.
“I recently became a father to a newborn daughter, born outside of my marriage,” Grohl said. In a statement on Tuesday via Instagram. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
“We are grateful for your consideration for all the children involved as we move forward together,” he concluded.
A rep for Grohl told The Post that the musician had no additional comment.
Though Grohl, Blum, 48, and their three children – daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10 – appear united by the birth of the newborn, the musician wasn't always keen to be a family man.
in a tough interview Q MagazineGrohl said he stopped calling Blum after just a few meetings.
Grohl told the outlet, “I met Jordan one night in 2001. Taylor (Hawkins) and I were hanging out in the Sunset Marquis whisky bar. Taylor was gorgeous looking. I mean, girls would send him drinks. Some beautiful girl would come up and start talking to Taylor. I had just come out of a Tenacious D session. I had on Vans trainers, no socks, dirty shorts and a dirty T-shirt, and was surrounded by beautiful Hollywood.”
“She pointed to her friend Jordan. I was like, ‘Oh my god. No chance!’ So I was just having a few drinks and acting like an idiot. And by the end of the night I was angry and I was staring at her like, ‘You’re my future ex-wife,'” he laughed. “So she gave me her number: ‘Jordan, your future ex-wife.'”
While Grohl admitted they “saw each other a few times” after the encounter, the ex-Nirvana drummer said he quickly realized she was on the receiving end and “backed off.”
When asked if this was because he was “burned out” by his first marriage — Grohl married photographer Jennifer Youngblood in 1994, and they were divorced by 1997 — the musician replied, “No, because I wasn't ready for the flag. And then we were in London (In August 2001, before V Festival) and Taylor got hospitalized. He took some drugs and overdosed.”
In 2007, he told Ellie“I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I stopped calling.”
Grohl explained that after Hawkins got out of the hospital following an overdose in 2001, he went back to his hotel room and saw a familiar face on the TV screen.
“So I was watching snooker or something and there's a chewing gum advert on – a girl walking down the subway picking people's pockets. Suddenly I'm like, 'That's that girl Jordan, that's that girl!'” Grohl told Q. “And over the next few days I started having dreams about the life I was thinking about, dreams of settling down.”
The musician said that within two weeks his life “changed forever.”
“I thought, 'I'm not going to wait another minute because life is too short, man. It's too fragile,'” he explained. “The day we got home I called her and she said, 'Wow, I never thought I'd ever hear from you again.' So I took her to a restaurant right next to here. And that was it.”
Grohl and Blum married at their LA home in August 2003. His eldest daughter has deactivated her Instagram account since her father spoke openly about his affair and child.
Grohl and Bloom have shown no signs of marital trouble in recent months. They were spotted at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July, just weeks before their explosive announcement.
