Democrats are “not enthusiastic” about the possibility of President Biden’s White House reelection as it becomes clearer that the gaffe-prone commander-in-chief is his own biggest problem, a party political strategist has suggested.
The 81-year-old president’s own vulnerabilities — including his age — are likely to blame for recent polling that shows Biden trailing his GOP rival, former President Donald Trump, or holding on by a razor-thin margin, Politico reported, citing interviews with a slew of Democrats.
“Democrats are enthusiastic about trying to win the Senate and trying to win the House,” party faithful strategist, Neil Oxman, said.
The Pennsylvania-based strategist added, though, that they’re “not enthusiastic about Biden’s reelection. Period.”
In addition to his age, Biden’s inconsistent messaging and dwindling support from younger generations are also likely culprits when it comes to Biden’s weaknesses, Oxman and other Democrats argued.
“There’s a disconnect between the successes we’re having locally and in specials, and the environments we’re experiencing at and near the top of the ticket,” Steve Israel, a former Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair, said.
“It is the fundamental challenge confronting Democrats right now: Why are we doing as well as we’re doing on the ground, in local and state elections, but we still have this very tight polling at the presidential?”
The stark reality check comes after fresh polling on Thursday showed Trump was running the table against Biden in six battleground states — including in critical Pennsylvania.
The surveys from Emerson College and The Hill show the 45th president edging out Biden in Arizona (47%-43%), Georgia (45%-41%), Michigan (46%-45%), Nevada (46%-43%), Pennsylvania (47%-45%), and Wisconsin (47%-44%).
Meanwhile, a Fox News survey released Wednesday showed Biden leading Trump by a razor-thin margin — 50%-48% — ahead of next week’s debate between the pair.
