Dennis Quaid isn't sad about the end of his marriage to Meg Ryan.
The 70-year-old actor recently reflected on his 10-year relationship with the “When Harry Met Sally” actress, 62, whom he married in 1991.
Appearing on Friday's episode “Who's talking to Chris Wallace?”. On Max, the 76-year-old journalist asked Quaid how much pressure the former couple's combined fame had put on their relationship.
“What happened? When I met Meg I was here career-wise and she was here too and then it just happened like that,” Quaid responded, indicating with his hands that Ryan's fame level had risen higher than it did while he was with her.
“I tried to be the bigger person and tell myself it's okay with me, but people are people,” the star added. “When I went into rehab she was on the upswing and Meg is a really great, lovely person and really talented and she deserves all her success.”
Quaid wasn’t ready to change his romance, which produced his 32-year-old son Jack.
He added, “But I have no regrets about my marriage to Meg, and we got Jack Quaid out of the relationship who will probably eclipse both of us.”
Meg and Quaid's son has continued to land major acting roles in recent years, including appearing as a series regular on “The Boys” and playing a supporting role in the hit film “Oppenheimer.”
This isn’t the first time Quaid has reflected on Ryan’s rise to fame during their marriage. He previously admitted that, at times, he felt somewhat overshadowed by the “Sleepless in Seattle” alumnus.
“I was a big deal when we met,” Quaid recalled during an appearance on “Megyn Kelly Today” in 2018. “We would go out on the streets of New York and it was like, ‘Meg! Meg!’ And I have to admit, I really felt like I disappeared. I didn't think I was that small, but I was. It was an opportunity for growth — I learned from her.”
“The Parent Trap” actor said that despite the pressures of being in the spotlight, his marriage to Ryan was “the most successful relationship of my life.”
The former couple was considered one of Hollywood's power couples, but they split due to alleged infidelity on both sides. At the time of their breakup, Ryan was seen mingling with her “Proof of Life” co-star Russell Crowe.
