A transatlantic Delta flight had to be diverted to New York City after a passenger suffered from diarrhea during the flight, according to a news agency. Viral post on X.
The Airbus A330 aircraft was flying from Boston, Massachusetts, to Rome, Italy last Friday but turned back over the Atlantic Ocean about an hour after takeoff.Rome shows Flightradar24,
The plane then reportedly landed at JFK, after which the 281 passengers were transferred to another plane. According to Business Insider.
A Delta spokesperson attributed the change to a “medical issue with a customer en route,” but forgot to specify the nature of the problem.
However, the Twitter account @OnlyInBoston said the incident involved a passenger who suffered severe diarrhea in his seat.
Delta representatives said of the plane crash, “Delta apologizes to our customers for the delays experienced on their trip from Boston to Rome on Friday night. We thank them for their patience as the plane was diverted to New York-JFK before departing for Rome on Saturday morning.”
The original aircraft resumed service approximately 20 hours after the potentially foul-smelling incident.
This isn't the first time a Delta flight has had to be diverted because of diarrhea.

“This is a biohazard issue,” the pilot told air traffic control. “We had a passenger who had diarrhea the whole time we were on the plane, so they want us to turn back to Atlanta.”
Footage taken after the incident shows brown paint smeared across the length of the plane's aisle, with paper towels laid out over most of the dirty spots in an attempt to obscure the view.
