Un-Bell-ievable!
Kristen Carli, an Arizona-based registered dietitian, claims that she has found the best Taco Bell order for weight loss: a Chicken Burrito Supreme Fresco and a Mad Tasty Grapefruit Sparkling Water.
“This meal provides a balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, which can help maintain energy levels and support muscle mass,” Carli wrote Thursday for Eat This, Not That.
Carli said the meal contains 370 calories, 11 grams of fat (including 5 grams of saturated fat), 49 grams of carbohydrates and 19 grams of protein.
With “fresco” style, diced tomatoes replace mayo-based sauces and dairy items (such as cheese and sour cream).
At 400 calories and 14 grams of fat, the classic Taco Bell Burrito Supreme includes seasoned beef, cheese, tomatoes, reduced-fat sour cream, onions, refried beans, red sauce and lettuce. Substituting slow-roasted chicken costs $1.70 more.
“Despite being lower in fat, chicken still provides a good amount of protein, which is essential for muscle repair, immune function, and satiety,” Carli explained. “By choosing chicken, you can maintain the protein content of your meal without the extra fat, which can help you feel full and satisfied, potentially reducing the urge to snack later on.”
She notes that the Mad Tasty Grapefruit Sparkling Water only adds 5 calories per serving to the meal, with no added sugars.
There are other weight-conscious choices at Taco Bell as well. One weight loss coach on TikTok prefers two Chicken Soft Taco Supremes and a side of chips and nacho cheese sauce or a chicken Power Menu Bowl.
And women’s fat loss dietitian Steph Heflin, who “loves Taco Bell,” suggests a power bowl with beans, a “fresco” style taco order, or the Bean Burrito.
“[It] does have quite a bit of protein,” Heflin said last month about the bean burrito, which boasts 13 grams of protein.
