Animated children's series dogs in space has ended after its initial two-season order.
Produced by Jeremiah Cortez, dogs in space It first hit our screens in November 2021, after which a second season was announced, arriving in September 2022. It ran for a total of 20 episodes and featured the adventures of the dogs Garbage, Stella and Ed, genetically enhanced dogs who have been sent out into the universe in the hope of finding a new home for mankind.
The series' voice cast included Haley Joel Osment, Sarah Chalke, Kimiko Glenn, and Chris Parnell.
The news of the series' cancellation was announced by the series' head writer, James Hamilton, who Announced earlier this year He informed that he is looking for new work via Twitter/X. In early August 2024, when he was asked that dogs in space Was Cancelled“I'm afraid so!” said the author.
Prior to that post, Hamilton had indicated the show had been canceled in November 2023, Writing in a thread,
“I'm so proud of Dogs, and I'm so proud of the hard work our writing team has done to make this show so special. We've worked our butts off, and it shows in how funny, emotional, and smart the stories are.

Although there were ideas floating around for future episodes – and yes, that cliffhanger – I can't tell you for sure what else the dogs in space would have looked like. But whatever, I believe they found a new planet and succeeded in their mission.
Even if the season two finale is the final canonical ending — maybe Jeremiah will find a way to tell more stories with these characters someday, given how tangled the rights are — I actually feel good about where we left the Pluto crew, even if they haven’t found a new home yet.

While I know it can be disappointing to see the series end where it did… personally, I felt a lot of satisfaction writing the final scene where Garbage says “Let's find a new planet!”
Because, after everything he’s been through and everything he’s learned, I knew he would do it.”
Hamilton's writing will next be seen on Netflix Gentry Chow vs. Underworldis set to be released sometime in 2024. He recently wrote about his time writing that show, “It was a ridiculous, amazing privilege to be the head writer of this show and to bring creator Echo Wu's extraordinary vision to life. You are never prepared for just how good this series is going to be.”
Hamilton also revealed the above thread He reveals he has a “secret” animated series in the making at Netflix, which he calls “exciting, but not enough to pay the bills.”
Sadly, it's becoming increasingly the case that most Netflix original animated kids shows rarely extend beyond their initial upfront order, which typically consists of one or two seasons. On some occasions, a show may receive additional season orders if it finds great success, but given the length of the runway for animated projects, that's not often the case. Earlier this year, we learned that my dad is a bounty hunter It will not go beyond its initial sequence.
Thanks to Kate S for informing me of the cancellation via email.
