Former President Donald Trump cast an advance ballot Wednesday in Florida’s GOP primary set to take place next Tuesday, leading by example in voting early.
“Great honor to vote,” Trump said after voting, according to a video posted by his deputy communications director. “We’ve done a fantastic job here.”
“We think we’re doing very well. We just had a poll that shows we’re doing really well,” he said. “We have an interesting couple months ahead of us.”
Florida is gearing up for its House and Senate primaries on Aug. 20. Early voting commenced last Saturday and stretches to this coming Saturday.
Trump, 78, cast his ballot from Palm Beach before trekking up to Asheville, NC for a campaign event.
Ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election, Trump has pushed for his voters to cast ballots early, something he has justified by pointing to the need to win.
In June, his campaign rolled out an initiative dubbed “Swamp The Vote USA” to push mail-in absentee and early in-person voting.
“Republicans must win and we will use every appropriate tool to beat the Democrats because they are destroying our country. Whether you vote absentee, by mail, early in-person or on election day, we are going to protect the vote. We make sure your ballot is secure and your voice is heard,” he said in a statement at the time.
Still, Trump has previously criticized mail-in voting and early voting practices. During a recent rally in Georgia, for instance, he called for same-day voting.
“I will secure our elections. Our goal will be one-day voting with paper ballots, proof of citizenship, and voter ID,” Trump declared at a recent rally.
