A driver fleeing from police crashed his car into a Texas mall, sparking a massive emergency response with reports of multiple injuries.
Dozens of police and emergency vehicles were seen responding to the Killeen Mall, about 80 miles north of Austin, at 5:40 p.m. Saturday.
It was unclear how many people were injured or how the chase started, but police said on Facebook that the incident was under control.
“The area is safe at this time,” Killeen police posted on their Facebook page. “We ask that you avoid the area as first responders conduct their investigation.”
A spokesperson for the Killeen Police Department said the pursuit that began in Belton ended with a crash at the mall.
In a video posted on Twitter, the mall parking lot could be seen filled with emergency response vehicles.
Police also dismissed rumors of an active shooter on social media.
“There is no active shooter at Killeen Mall. DPS, KFD and KPD are currently investigating the incident by reaching the spot. The area is safe and we urge residents to stay away from Killeen Mall at this time.” police said on Facebook.
Investigation is ongoing.
