An elderly straphanger was randomly pushed onto the subway tracks at Manhattan’s Herald Square station on Sunday afternoon, according to police.
An NYPD representative said the 72-year-old victim was standing on the northbound F train platform at the 34th Street-Herald Square station at about 12:15 p.m. when the unidentified gunman came up behind him and pushed him onto the tracks.
The rider was helped back onto the platform by other straphangers and was taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries – while his cowardly attacker escaped and is free.
Subway-shoving attacks remain a safety concern for many New Yorkers who ride the rails.
Last week, a 74 year old man pushed Tracked down by a 28-year-old nut in The Bronx, who tried to claim, “I didn’t do it” before being slapped down by police.
Earlier this month, a 43-year-old assault victim also told The Post that a crazy woman Pushed him onto the train tracks in Brooklyn In another unprovoked attack she was “arguing” with herself before the attack.
In October, there was another transit nut attempted murder charge An 82-year-old woman was pushed onto the tracks at the No. 7 train station in Flushing, Queens, injuring the victim.
City officials say crime has declined in the Big Apple, but they acknowledge there is still a perception of fear among many New Yorkers who ride the subway.
