Rob Schneider's daughter Elle King wasn't trying to offend anyone when she revealed her challenging relationship with her father.
King, 35, spoke with Jelly Roll's wife Bunny Xo on her “Dumb Blonde” podcast last month, revealing that she wouldn't be able to talk to her father “for four or five years.” In addition, she discussed some of the “toxic and very stupid” situations she experienced during her childhood.
The country singer never expected her conversation with bunny XO would spark any interest in her family, but she also had no regrets about sharing stories about her childhood.
“I never thought it would go viral. I was just speaking about my childhood and my truth,” King told People magazine. “I wasn't trying to hurt her.”
He added, “A lot of people said, 'How could she say that about her family?' and 'Everything should be behind closed doors.' No, it's not. Sometimes you just have to say things and get it off your chest so you don't have to carry it around for the rest of your life.”
Though Schneider publicly apologized after the podcast episode's release, King said it meant nothing.
Representatives for Schneider did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
“Your father is one of my childhood crushes,” Bunny told King last month. King described her relationship with her father as one with a unique ups and downs: “I released my record and people finally started asking about my father,” she said. “My father called me and said, 'Don't talk about me in the press.'”
She remembered, “If I ever spent time with my dad in the summer, it would be on a movie set. I would just be lost in the crowd. If I ever messed up a shot, if I ever messed up talking, I'd get in trouble.”
Bunny asked, “Did you ever feel like you guys could connect?” King said, “Not until I got a lot older.”
“I was really overweight as a kid. My dad sent me to overweight camp, and then I got in trouble one year because I sprained my ankle and wouldn't lose weight,” the “Ex's & Oh's” singer recalled.
He added: “Very toxic and very stupid.”
In another excerpt, King recalled, “I had already started getting tattoos, and it was like 108 degrees, so I had to wear sweaters, because my father was very much against tattoos or any form of self-expression that was different from what he wanted.
“I disagree with a lot of the things he said. You're saying your piece, and you're talking crap about drag and, you know, anti-gay rights, and it's just like… bullshit. I want to use this opportunity to say that I disagree. I don't agree with a lot of the things he said.”
Bunny asked, “Did your father ever try to help you?” to which King replied, “No, he never helped me. I never wanted his help.”
“His reputation wasn't very good either. I don't want to be associated with him. He's not nice. You want to change someone so much; you can't control someone else's actions. You can't control people's feelings. You can only control how you react and what you do with your feelings, and sometimes I boil over, and I boil over and I lose my temper,” she said.
“You try every different angle. I would try letters. I would try soft. I would try yelling … My dad forgot about every single birthday. I spent my 18th birthday in summer school, and they brought me cupcakes, and I came home, and my dad forgot my birthday,” King said.
