Kinds of Kindness—Emma Stone’s first movie after winning an Oscar for Poor Things—is coming soon to digital streaming.
Stone, of course, won her second Best Actress Oscar at the 2024 Academy Awards for Poor Things in March. She quickly re-teamed with Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos for Kinds of Kindness, which made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was released in theaters in June.
Kinds of Kindness also features Stone’s Poor Things co-star Willem Dafoe, as well as Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau and Margaret Qualley.
According to Variety, Kinds of Kindness will premiere on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, August 27, on such platforms as Prime Video and AppleTV+.
Neither the digital purchase nor the 48-hour rental price was revealed by the trade publication. Typically purchase prices are $24.99 and rentals are $19.99.
The logline for the film reads, “Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing at sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.”
How Did Audiences And Critics Receive ‘Kinds Of Kindness’?
According to The Numbers, Kinds of Kindness opened in five North American theaters on June 21 and expanded to more screens from there, reaching its peak on July 5 by playing in 920 venues.
Kinds of Kindness, per The Numbers, made $5 million domestically and nearly $7.4 million in international ticket sales for a worldwide box office tally of $12.4 million.
IMDb reported that Kinds of Kindness—which was released by Searchlight Pictures—had a production budget of $15 million before prints and advertising.
Rotten Tomatoes critics collectively gave Kinds of Kindness a 71% “fresh” rating based on 254 reviews. The Critic Consensus for the film reads, “A cold-hearted triptych brimming with caustic wit, Kinds of Kindness is Yorgos Lanthimos at his most misanthropic — and bitingly funny.”
RT users weren’t as kind to Kinds of Kindness, giving the movie a 48% “rotten” Audience Score based on 100-plus verified user ratings.
Variety noted that Kinds of Kindness, which is rated R, will also be available on Blu-ray and DVD on October 8.
