Brian Jordan Alvarez, the 37-year-old actor and comedian who created and stars in the FX/Hulu show “English Teacher,” is going viral with video on tiktok and Instagram – and his unconventional approach has served to make his show even more popular.
In one of his viral videos, captioned, “English teacher bingeing on Hulu,” an audio “Gilmore Girls” The episode can be heard. Alvarez told the New York Times Earlier this month he said that he did not originally make dance videos to promote his show.
“People started commenting, ‘Okay, I’m going to start your show. You convinced me,'” he said.
He added, “I started getting interest in it by writing ‘Stream English Teacher on Hulu’ in the post.”

“English Teacher,” (now streaming on Hulu) is an eight-episode sitcom based on Evan Marquez, a gay English teacher at a high school in Austin, Texas.

Alvarez started his career with comedy sketches posted on YouTube, so he sees this as a full-circle moment.
“I started putting things on the internet as a way to get my art out. It culminated in me getting this mainstream TV show. Then people will have to go back to the Internet to watch mainstream TV shows? It’s weird that it’s all the same thing.”
The show finished its eight-episode first season last month, and has not yet been renewed for Season 2.
