When Netflix started building its catalog of Indian originals in 2018, one of the first genres to feature was horror. Horror films make up a small portion of Indian theatrical releases, so Netflix provided a welcome outlet for filmmakers and storytellers who wanted to delve into horror content.
Here are all the Netflix Indian original movies and series categorized into the horror genre – plus some bonus horror theatrical releases that are currently streaming on Netflix:

Nightingale (2020)
Nightingale One of the best Indian original films Netflix has ever produced, and one of the most gorgeous too. In late 19th century Bengal, a young man returns from studying law abroad to find his family’s ancestral home in a precarious state. This compilation includes short films from four directors who also contributed to the compilation Bombay Talkies And stories of lust: Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar. Akhtar’s story about a home health aide in a creepy apartment and Banerjee’s parable about big-city resource cannibalism (literally) are standouts in this solid collection.

This crime series is a lot of fun, and its wild finale is what makes it worth watching.
Betal (2020) – 4 episodes
Blumhouse – creator of M3GAN And black phone – is one of the production houses behind the series BetalA soldier tasked with forcibly displacing villagers to make way for road construction accidentally revives a zombie army of British soldiers who have waited a century to resume their fighting.
vampire (2018) – 3 episodes
This is Netflix’s second ever Indian original series vampireAnother limited series from Blumhouse. Set in a near-future fascist India, Netflix’s It-girl Radhika Apte plays a soldier at a government black site who is tasked with interrogating a notorious terrorist. As the terrible truth about their prisoner comes to light, the terrified soldiers begin attacking each other, even though their survival depends on them working together. With a total runtime of just over 2 hours, vampire Netflix Indian Originals are a quick and entertaining way to get started with horror content.
toothache (2023) – 8 episodes
Tooth Fairy: When Love Bites It’s more of a supernatural romance than an outright horror spectacle. A vampire with limited contact with the human world seeks help when she loses a tooth, but falls in love with the shy dentist who fixes her tooth. Vampire hunters, clan politics and an outcast policeman create problems for this couple at the peak of happiness.
typewriter (2019) – 5 episodes
Years before he directs the epic thriller of 2023 Jaane Jaane For Netflix, Sujoy Ghosh writes and directs limited horror series typewriterA trio of ghost hunters for children in Goa investigate a legend about an old typewriter that hurts anyone who tries to remove it from the haunted estate it resides in.
