Fake nurse Amanda Leanne Porter worked at multiple hospitals across California for a month, caring for about 60 patients: police



A Virginia woman was caught impersonating a registered nurse for a month and allegedly worked at several hospitals in California, overseeing the care of nearly 60 patients.

Amanda Leanne Porter, 44, was arrested by the Burbank Police Department on Tuesday after it was discovered that she was allegedly working as a nurse at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Los Angeles County, KTLA. informed,

According to the department, Porter cared for about 60 patients at the hospital and collected two pay checks between April 8 and May 8, before employees discovered she was impersonating a real, registered nurse who was based in California. I was not there.

The L.A. County District Attorney on Tuesday charged Porter with three felonies: identity theft, false impersonation and grand larceny.

He was arraigned Wednesday and is being held without bail at the L.A. County Central Regional Detention Facility in Lynnwood, detectives said.

During their investigation, the Burbank Police Department learned that Porter had previously posed as a nurse.

The Burbank Police Department revealed that the LA County Sheriff’s Department had arrested Porter on suspicion of committing a similar crime at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita.

However, Porter was granted bail and released from the custody of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation by Burbank PD Detectives revealed that Porter had obtained employment at several local hospitals around California using various false identities.

Detectives believe other local hospitals hired Porter after allegedly using a false identity.

Investigators urged anyone with information about similar cases in Southern California to call their local law enforcement agency or the Burbank Police Department.

Providence St. Joseph Medical Center and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital told KTLA that Porter was in the probationary phase of her employment and was supervised by a qualified training nurse during her time there.

Officials at both hospitals said it quickly became clear that Porter’s care, while she had fraudulently obtained brief employment at their facilities, was inadequate to the level expected of a registered nurse.

Porter-Ely continued to use the real nurse’s identity until her arrest in September 2016, causing a loss of over $120,000 to banks and retailers.

During that time, she fraudulently opened multiple bank accounts and obtained over $450,000 in cash, loans, goods and services, including at least three vehicles and one property, under the stolen nurse identity.

Porter-Ely also pleaded guilty to opening bank accounts using other people’s Social Security numbers, where prosecutors found she received approximately $50,000 in worthless checks.

According to the LA Times, the Burbank Police Department has not confirmed whether Amanda Leanne Porter and Amanda Porter-Ealy are the same person as the investigation continues.
