It appears that Toph's search for the upcoming second season Avatar The Last Airbender The shooting of 'Dangal' is over, and one of the frontrunners (at least among fans) has shared a disappointing update, stating that she hasn't got the role.
For those who don't know, Diana Tsoy was a fan favorite for the role of Toph after her stellar performance in a concept video posted on social media in January 2024, and the YouTube video alone garnered close to 1 million views.
In it, Tsoi can be seen wearing Toph's costume and defending herself against a series of oncoming attackers using a mix of martial arts and earth bending. The comments on the video are great, with one saying, “She did all of Toph's mannerisms, she doesn't look directly at the person she's fighting, her wide stance, mantis style, perfect!” and another adding, “The way she plants her heels tells me you can totally understand her character and fighting style. The way she pushed one guy into another guy's attack was perfect for her! Well done, the actors sold the choreography, and you absolutely get the feeling that Toph is listening and waiting for each opening move.”
In case you missed it over the summer, Netflix released a wide-open casting call for the role of Toph, who is a lead for the next two seasons as the show delves deeper into the Earth Kingdom. The open casting call specifically invited those who were blind or had low vision to submit applications. In recent weeks, we've also learned that Netflix is casting for the roles of Ursa and Long Feng, in addition to three new roles that weren't in the original Nickelodeon show.
Overnight, young actress A video was shared on Instagram that she didn't get the role. “I wanted to update you on my journey for Tof,” Tsoy said at the beginning of the video, “So, unfortunately, I didn't get the role. This is very sad news for me. As you probably know, I was pursuing this role for a very long time. I started my journey for Tof in 2021 when they started filming Season 1 in Vancouver, and in 2022, my video pitch for Tof accidentally leaked online, but I don't regret it because I wouldn't be with you guys.”
In the video, Tsoi asks fans to support the production's final choice for the role and says she is 100% sure they have chosen the best young actress for the role. She says whoever got the role had to go through a rigorous audition process, which Tsong calls “pretty crazy”.
There is no information on when the casting announcement for Toph will be made public. We know that Geeked Week is coming, and the teaser trailer released by Netflix tells us that Avatar The Last Airbender Here's what to look forward to. However, considering that production on Season 2 won't begin until October, keep expectations for any of the scenes to a minimum.
