Nicole Kidman has been accused of lying about her iconic post-divorce photo.
Earlier this week, Kidman revealed what she claimed to be the real truth behind the iconic 2001 image.
She insisted that the photo was not taken as she left her lawyer’s office after learning that her divorce from Tom Cruise had been finalized, saying:
“That was from a movie. That wasn’t real life. I know that image!” he told GQ.
However, Internet sleuths have since alleged that Kidman is just plain lying about the iconic image.
“Well, I just dug into this and not only did he not say what movie it was, but none of his fans had any idea what movie it could have been. So I feel comfortable concluding that she’s lying and this is actually a post-divorce paparazzi shot,” tweeted one confused fan.
Another commented: “I looked for evidence. This is not from any movie.”
“I’m thrilled by this because it’s such an easily unacceptable lie,” another wrote.
Meanwhile, a fourth tweeted: “There isn’t a single role of hers from around that time where she wore clothes like that or wore her natural hair! Lie!”
In the famous snap that goes viral almost every year, the Australian star wore a patterned top, green capri pants and sneakers in the throwback snap.
She has not yet revealed which film she was referring to.
This meme, in particular, made headlines in September when Jenna Dewan posted it via Instagram Stories following her contentious divorce settlement between herself and ex-husband Channing Tatum.
Kidman married Cruise, 62, in 1990, before separating in 2001. The couple adopted daughter Isabella, 31, and son Connor, 29.
The actor moved on with Katie Holmes and the two were married from 2006 to 2012.
Kidman, on the other hand, started dating Keith Urban in 2005.
He and the 57-year-old country singer married the following year and welcomed daughters Sunday, 16, and Faith, 13, in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
Kidman referred to her marriage in a Monday interview, saying that she would “wake up at 3 a.m. crying and gasping” at their union, among other things.
“Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you. And losing parents and raising kids and marriage and all those things that help make you a fully sentient human being,” He listed. “Life is, wow.”
