A series of AI-generated videos reuniting dead celebrities with their living loved ones has sparked a firestorm of criticism.
By whom were the controversial clips made? X User Min Choi, Who describes himself as an “AI teacher”.
Choi shared a video to demonstrate Grok-2, a new “cutting-edge AI assistant” he claims is “the best AI image model that can generate photorealistic people right now”.

For some people, these videos ranged from playful to extremely disturbing.
Dolly Parton was shown cuddling with Elvis Presley, while Beyoncé posed with Michael Jackson.
But the tone changed when Choi posted a video of Paul McCartney with John Lennon, who was murdered in 1980.
Then the reaction to AI-generated reunions between living celebrities and their deceased family members took off.
A video shows Princes William and Harry standing with their late mother Princess Diana.
Another picture shows Australian wildlife warrior Steve Irwin embracing his adult daughter Bindi, who was only eight years old at the time of his death.
The Irwin video, which has received over two million views, shows the pair smiling and embracing – a scene that many found deeply disturbing.
One ex’s response to the Irwin video read, “Get professional psychiatric help, you bullshitter.”
“Extremely offensive and distasteful,” wrote another.
“This is bad. There is something wrong with you, something is broken inside you, that you will make it and not remove it immediately. These are real people who have suffered real human tragedies. Dolls are not toys for you to play with. Bullshit,” said one exasperated commenter.
“These are bad and you should feel bad about making them,” added another.
“You should take them down. Very insulting,” one said.
While AI-generated content has long been a source of controversy, these videos have reignited the debate, with many calling for strict guidelines on how the technology should be used.
