new music from finnas
“For crying out loud!” Hits shelves Friday, October 4th.
The ten-track album is a gorgeous slice of pop that warrants repeated listens; It’s dense, richly layered, thoughtful and, most importantly, a lot of fun. Think Coldplay meets Electric Light Orchestra, with a little slice of space-age jazz thrown in at the last minute.
To create the album, Finneas enlisted the talents of his producer friends Aaron Forbes, David Marinelli, Lucy Healy, Matthew Fylde and Miles Morris.
Together, they’ve woven a rich tapestry that will likely add to Finneas’s Grammy trophy haul.
Standout tracks here include the musical theater-esque piano ballad “Starf-er,” the plucky ditty “Clits” and the funky “For Cryin’ Out Loud.”
What will stick with us most though is “Sweet Cherries”‘s left turn at the 3:10 mark. The wailing song turns into a toe tapping sound out of nowhere. This transition feels less like a songwriting book and more like a magic trick. Truth be told, three listens so far it has stopped me dead in my tracks and I will soon go back for a fourth time.
