He later doubled down on his stance in a statement as he faced calls to resign and accusations of “betrayal” from members of his own party.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends” earlier Tuesday, Moulton said Democrats have a “strong record” of defending transgender people, including transgender children,

“This isn’t even about trans kids. That’s another criticism I’ve heard,” he said.

“My children are small. They play on coed football teams just like I did when I was their age. But, when they get older, when we’re talking about competitive sports when people are much older, it’s appropriate to impose restrictions… For some reason, because of some conservative litmus test in our party, We shouldn’t even entertain the idea, and all I’m saying is, let’s debate.”
