A small propeller plane hits a flock of birds while taking off in Alaska – leaving gruesome and bloody stains all over the hull.
According to one report, Mark Schwantes, a big game hunter and commercial fishing captain, was getting ready to take off in a wildcat plane for Alaska’s capital Anchorage on September 26 when he noticed Alaska’s state bird, the willow. Fell on a flock of ptarmigan. From SWNS.
“Normally, they scatter when a plane takes off, but this time, they stayed put a little longer,” the 48-year-old told the outlet.
“As we were getting airborne, about half a dozen people flew in front of us and got hit by the propeller.”
The unperturbed pilot said he proceeded calmly and knew his plane could withstand the bloody blow.
However the plane went on without any known or visible damage – it was splattered with the blood, brains and feathers of a flock of willow ptarmigan.
“I was very surprised that this had never happened to me in any of the bush takeoffs I’ve ever done,” Schwantes told SWNS. “It’s one of the things you can see here.”
