A ballot measure in Florida to add abortion rights to the state constitution failed Tuesday, falling short of the 60% support needed to pass.
According to Decision Desk Headquarters, Amendment 4, which would have barred laws restricting abortion before fetal viability or when necessary to protect the health of the pregnant woman, was approved by 58.4% with more than 95% of the votes counted. Got support.
The failure of the constitutional amendment effectively allows Florida’s current “heartbeat law” that bans abortion after six weeks to remain in effect.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
