Former Australian Idol judge Meghan Trainor has opened up about the birth of her second child — and how Australia inspired her unique choice of name.
The 30-year-old Made You Look singer was in Australia for several months with her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, as she filmed the 2023 season of the popular Channel 7 singing show.

“My baby was inside me when I was in Australia,” Trainor told Nova FM’s Smallzy’s Surgery podcast this week.
She then noted that her baby boy had one of the most Aussie names you could possibly imagine — Barry Bruce.
“He’s my little Australian baby and I’m so happy,” she said.
Trainor said the inspiration for her son’s name came from the animated children’s film Finding Nemo, which is set in Australia.
The character of Bruce the shark is voiced by the late Australian icon Barry Humphries, and Trainor thought the two names went well together.
“I thought Bruce would be cute because the shark in Finding Nemo is Australian, and the baby is too, so I thought it would be cute if it was Barry Bruce,” she said.
Barry was born on July 1 last year, shortly after Trainor returned to the United States.
The new bub was born exactly seven years to the day since her first date with Sabara, whom she married in December 2018.
“On July 1st (our 7 year anniversary of our first date) we welcomed Barry Bruce Trainor into the world,” Trainor wrote on Instagram.
“He was a big boy at 8lbs 7oz … and sideways (transverse), but we had an amazing, successful C-section, and I finally got my skin-to-skin time!
“Thank you to all of the incredible doctors and nurses who took such great care of us.”
Trainor and Sabara also have a three-year-old son, Riley, who made the journey Down Under with the family for Australian Idol.
Last year, Trainor and Harry Connick Jr joined Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands as judges on the show.
This year, however, it was an all-Australian panel, with series veteran Marcia Hines returning to join Shark and Sandilands on the show.
Trainor’s new album, called Timeless, is slated for release on June 14.
