East Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has undergone emergency heart surgery after suffering chest pains in a New York City jail, ABC News reported, citing unnamed sources.
Weinstein, 72, is scheduled to appear in court this week where prosecutors will present evidence to a New York grand jury in hopes of securing a new indictment against him on a string of sex crimes charges, ABC reported.
Weinstein has denied having nonconsensual sex with anyone. Found guilty of rape charges in February 2020,
The conviction was tossed out in April by a New York appeals court that found Weinstein did not receive a fair trial because the judge improperly admitted testimony from accusers who had not been formally accused of assault.

According to a statement from Weinstein’s representatives provided to ABC on Monday, Weinstein suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid in the heart and lungs, and also recently had Covid and double pneumonia.
A spokesman for Weinstein did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
