Former host David ‘Kochie’ Koch returns to Sunrise to deliver heartfelt message to new Weekend Sunrise anchor David Woiwod


dear ex sunrise host David “Coochie” Koch Newly appointed Weekend Sunrise presenter David has returned to the breakfast show to share a heartfelt message with Voivode.

Currently, Voivode and co-host Monique Wright are filling in for Nat and Shirvo on the weekday edition of the show, with the pair now on Christmas break.

The duo interviewed Kochi, who was with Sunrise for 21 years before stepping down in June 2023, for their Compare the Markets segment.

“Would you like to introduce it?” Wright asked the Voivode.

“I feel like I’ve walked into the twilight zone, something has gone wrong here – I should talk to him in the field somewhere (as a roving reporter),” Voivode joked.

Kochi laughed, then congratulated heartily.

Kochi said, “Voivode, congratulations, I deserve it.”

Kochi said, “It’s awesome, it’s great to see your parents and the lie detector test (segment on Sunrise), I loved it too.”

All three laughed heartily, their friendship during the meal clearly visible.

Kochi’s message came after Voivod began his stint at Weekend Sunrise on Saturday, in which he enjoyed spectacular success.

His debut Thursday comes just two days after he was announced as the replacement for beloved outgoing host Matt Doran.

“I am absolutely thrilled to drop by Matty Doran and meet all of your wonderful Sunrise viewers. “I already know him, I want to know him even better,” said the Voivode.

Voivod was a Sunrise Melbourne reporter for four years before his US posting and has joked about his early days on the show.

“While I was doing big stories like the chickens stolen from Burwood Primary School, I was working on exotic birds at Werribee Sewerage Farm,” Voivod said.

“Lots of big stories. Very excited to join the team, to join forces with Som. Of course, our amazing Weekend Sunrise and Sunrise viewers, meeting them and hearing their stories, I’m thrilled beyond belief.

After nearly 21 years and over 5300 shows, Kochi left Sunrise last year, making him the longest serving breakfast host. TV Host in Australia.

“I have loved every minute of my time at Sunrise and am incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last 21 years,” Cocchi said.

“I have been fortunate to experience so many adventures, meet so many incredible people, and cover so many moments in history. It really is the best job in the world.”
