Gauri Khan is a multi-hyphenate; she’s an interior designer who has styled many homes for Bollywood stars, she’s a successful producer – having co-founded the production house Red Chillies Entertainment with her husband and actor Shah Rukh Khan. And now, she’s also a restaurateur.
Gauri Khan recently launched Torii, a progressive Asian restaurant in Bandra, Mumbai, alongside friends and co-partners Tanaaz Bhatia and Abhayraj Kohli. Khan, in an interview with Vogue, shared some interesting tidbits about her food habits, including the worst dish she’s ever cooked…
The most disastrous food dish Gauri Khan has cooked
Gauri Khan revealed that the most disastrous meal she’s ever cooked is Biryani, while also confessing that she’s not a good cook to begin with: “I tried to cook biryani once. I really love the dish but I think it’s better for me to enjoy eating it versus trying to cook it. Let’s just leave it at that.” Gauri and Shah Rukh Khan, who have been married for 32 years, have hosted many Eid and Diwali parties at Mannat, where biryani is an absolute must. No exception.
Furthermore, when asked what was the most exotic or unusual dish she’s ever tried, Gauri answered Escargot, edible land snails: “I know it’s not considered exotic any longer since so many people have tried it and enjoy it but it’s definitely on the more adventurous side of my culinary adventures.”
While her comfort food is “potatoes” in any and “all styles,” Gauri also proved that she’s a true Delhi girl at heart when she picked Chaat as a dish everyone should try at least once in their life. “Chaat. I’m a Delhi girl and the chaat and street food there are incomparable. Wherever I go, I try new and different types of chaat, and of course, all the old favourites I love,” she said.
