A Georgia middle school teacher has resigned after he tossed an 11-year-old student in class and allegedly made sexual comments about the child’s mother.
The Darien Middle School student, identified only as TJ, stood up from his desk and walked up to his teacher Betrelyn Elder in front of his classroom and stopped her from talking about his mother. WTOC.
“I was told that he said some words that were inappropriate for TJ and that he made some comments about me and my son was unhappy with that,” Chenelle Russell told the outlet.
TJ and Elder, who is also the school’s football coach, exchanged several words with each other before footage of the altercation was shown in which the teacher grabbed the 11-year-old’s chest.
Elder picked the student up off the floor and casually threw him onto a desk near other students.
TJ allegedly told Elder to “stop talking about my mom” and that he wanted to call her about the teacher’s comments.
“From that point on, he was grabbed and thrown to the floor,” Russell said.
As TJ tried to get off the ground, Elder was standing directly over him.
Russell, who does not know Elder, says the school system failed him because the violent throwaways have caused him to lack trust in school.
Russell told the outlet that the teen told his mother that Elder’s comments were “sexual in nature,” including one that said “he left his shoes at TJ’s mom’s house.”
School officials removed Elder from the classroom and assigned him to an isolated location away from students.
TJ suffered a concussion and multiple bruises and was brought to the emergency room after school on Friday, the outlet reports.
Elder submitted his resignation to the school district over the weekend.
The hasty resignation did not sit well with Russell, who wanted more discipline against Elder.
“He needs to be put in jail. He hurt my boy. My heart is broken because I wouldn’t do this to my child. His father wouldn’t do this to him. So for him to take the initiative to do this is disgusting,” Russell said.
According to this, no lawsuit or criminal charges have been filed against Elder Savannah Morning News.
