Vice President Kamala Harris stunned Oprah Winfrey on Thursday when she said during a virtual campaign rally that any intruder who broke into her home “would be shot.”
Winfrey hosted a livestream event titled “Unite for America Rally”, which featured several celebrities as well as questions and stories from citizens across the country.
When the topic of gun violence came up on the show, Winfrey said she was surprised when Harris revealed during last week's presidential debate that she was a gun owner herself.
“I didn't know that. And I thought it was powerful,” Winfrey said.
Harris laughed and replied, “If anybody broke into my house, they'd get shot, sorry.”
“Yeah, yeah. I'm listening, I'm listening,” Winfrey responded.
“Probably shouldn't have said that,” Harris said, and everyone laughed. “But my staff will look into it later.”
Fox News Digital has contacted the Harris campaign for comment.
In the presidential debate, Harris said, “I've made my position very clear on this issue of fracking and then taking away everybody's guns. Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We're not taking away anybody's guns. So stop constantly lying about that.”
A video recently surfaced of Harris saying, as San Francisco district attorney in 2007, that police officers could enter the locked homes of lawful gun owners and see where they keep their weapons.
“We would expect responsible behavior among everybody in the community, and just because you legally have a gun in your locked home doesn't mean we won't go into that home and check to see if you're going about your business responsibly and safely,” Harris said at the time.
Social media users on Thursday hit back at Harris' comments and pointed to her prior support for mandatory gun purchases and gun control.
“Kamala says she would beat up any intruder who broke into her home, then says 'I probably shouldn't have said that.' Let's be very clear. She has repeatedly said take away your guns and she will 100% do that if she is elected. Safety is for me, but not for you,” Libs of TikTok wrote.
Stephen Miller, a contributing editor at The Spectator, agreed, saying, “Kamala Harris went door-to-door advocating for a mandatory gun buyback program. Maybe a journalist with a professional reputation should take on that.”
Conservative radio host Larry Aldern wrote, “Guns are for me, not for you…'”
Townhall.com columnist Derek Hunter commented, “She'd be shot by the Secret Service because she has 24-hour protection. It's you and your family she wants to exclude from protection. Oprah pays people to protect her.”
The “Unite for America Rally” was organized by the “Win With Black Women” organization in support of the vice president. More than 140 other grassroots organizations took part in the virtual rally, including “White Women: Answer the Call,” “Latinas for Harris,” and “White Dudes for Harris.”
The event was held in Oakland County, Michigan, with 400 people in attendance, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer also delivered a speech. Celebrities like Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Lopez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep were also present virtually.
