Kamala Harris On Saturday, the campaign stopped at a spice shop known for openly discriminating against Republicans and calling for an end to political “division.”
Penzey's Spices, a spice store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, welcomed the Democratic candidate to visit the store and meet some supporters.
Facing a group of reporters, Harris claimed, “It's time to turn the page on the divisive elements. It's time to bring our country together and chart a new path forward.”
“I think what's happening, and I was just talking to some people in Pittsburgh about this, is that people are tired of the division and the efforts to divide us as Americans,” Harris said.
“And, for him to come forward and make this public statement, I think, is courageous.”
“But also for the people I was just talking to, it really reinforces that we love our country, and we have a lot more in common than the things that separate us,” Harris said at the spice shop.
Penzeys Spices has an “About Republicans” page on its website, featuring an 842-word essay criticizing the political party.
In contrast, the “About Us” page on the Penzeys website has just 461 words, including “We’re trying to make the world a better place.”
A portion of the “About Republicans” page on their site, written by CEO Bill Penzi, informs Republicans they can shop elsewhere: “Going forward we’ll be happy to have you as customers, but we will stop pretending that the Republican Party’s brutality, racism, COVID lies, climate change denial, and threats to democracy are anything but legitimate risks.”
“If you want us to pretend that you're not causing the harm you're causing so that you'll remain our customer, I'm sad to say, you may be happier elsewhere,” the Penzeys Spices website says.
Penzeys recently launched an ad campaign for its “Justice” spice blend targeted at the former president Donald TrumpSaying “Being indicted again and it feels so good!”
Former President Trump's campaign responded to Kamala's visit, saying, “Sorry Kamala, 'Scary Spice' is already taken!”
Bill Penzey, CEO of Penzey's Spices, is no stranger to controversy.
In 2022, he was criticized for renaming Martin Luther King Jr. Day to “Republicans are Racist Weekend!”
According to the Penzeys Spices Facebook page, the spice brand lost 40,000 customers in January 2022 due to this stunt but did not apologize.
Penzeys Spices did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
