Embattled Mayor Eric Adams was slammed by average New Yorkers on Thursday as he rallied with supporters outside Gracie Mansion, with hecklers calling him an “embarrassment to black people.”
One protester shouted, “You belong in jail with no bail next to Sean 'P-Diddy' Combs.” “You put police on people. You resign. You are an embarrassment, you are an embarrassment to black people.”
Another protester, who was part of the crowd of rioters who shouted at Adams and former NAACP President Hazel Dukes, called the mayor a “nothing.”
The woman shouted, “Our voice is louder than your voice.” “You're going to pay political people who don't care about our people.”
The sharp comments came as Adams was served with a 57-page federal indictment accusing him of taking $10 million in bribes and allowances.
Adams stood shoulder to shoulder with the Dukes and other civil rights leaders, including Herbert Daughtry and Chantal Wright.
But a crowd of protesters disrupted the event, with one heckler calling Dukes “a political pawn.”
One man shouted, “You always stay on the police's side until they come after you.”
When Dukes suggested, “We're not here to criticize,” one protester responded, “Yes we are!”
Adams tried to calm the crowd, but he was shouted down.
