Vicky Kaushal is trading in his Punjabi boy-next-door image for a kingly role. Having taken the country by storm with his Tauba Tauba dance moves, the actor is now set to captivate audiences with a completely different side in the historical epic, Chhaava. He portrays the legendary Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in this grand drama directed by Laxman Utekar (of Mimi fame) and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. The movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna, with a powerful score by A. R. Rahman.
The recently unveiled teaser offers a glimpse into the film’s world of intense action and drama. Vicky Kaushal is seen as a formidable warrior, outnumbered but undeterred, battling a massive Mughal army within the confines of a fort. Given the historical setting, Chhaava promises to be a visual spectacle filled with epic battle sequences. To bring this character to life, Kaushal has undergone rigorous physical training to get into the warrior shape.
Here’s how Vicky Kaushal beefed up to play Maratha emperor Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Chhaava: Know his intense diet and workout regimen
Workout and diet
Multiple reports suggested that Vicky Kaushal was urged to beef up his physique to convincingly portray a Maratha king and warrior. So, the actor packed on 25 kilograms of muscle, bulking up to 100 kilograms from his previous 75-kilogram frame when he started training.
Kris Gethin, who also moulds the physiques of Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham, was Kaushal’s trainer for this role. If you follow Vicky Kaushal on Instagram, you would have probably seen a glimpse of his workout, proudly displaying his impressive upper body transformation through his Instagram Stories. His workout includes strength training, functional training and cardio.
Despite his dedication to the gym, Gethin revealed an interesting tidbit in an India Today interview. “Vicky doesn’t sleep much because his schedule is insane. He’s one of the nicest people ever and always says yes, even if it means shooting until the wee hours. Sometimes he’s running on just four hours of sleep, but you’d never guess. He stays energetic and never complains on set,” Gethin said. Kaushal’s Instagram story of him working out with an injured arm proves his point.
