A man in China is lucky to be alive after falling down a steep hill – and he captured it all on camera.
Dramatic footage of the passenger's high-altitude accident has been shared nearly 445,000 times on Douyin, China's version of TikTok.
“I realised I couldn't get up at all and was slipping rapidly,” said Yang Meng, 42. told CNN Recalling a near death experience.
Meng was using a handheld 360-degree camera to record his hike in Anhui’s Fangzhengjian Mountains, about 280 miles west of Shanghai, when he lost his footing and fell onto rain-soaked rocks.
“That's when I thought — I'm falling off a cliff,” Meng said, recalling the moment he began sliding uncontrollably downward.
The self-recorded video shows the hiker falling down the cliff in what appears to be a human slip-and-slide.
Luckily, Meng bumps into a tree, which stops his fall, and possibly saves his life.
“When I hit the tree, it felt like a huge rock had fallen down. All I was thinking was, 'I can't die',” said the grateful rock climber.
Despite the dramatic fall, he emerged from the incident unscathed, suffering only a few bruises on his leg and minor cuts on his arm and thigh.
Douyin viewers commented on how lucky he was to survive the fall.
Meng said the incident taught her that “life is short” so people should “enjoy every day.”
Naturally, such a deterioration could deter many people from ever traveling on foot again.
However, Meng said he would not let this difficulty stop him from doing what he loves.
“If anything, it's making me want to explore the world more,” he said.
The incident occurred following heavy rainfall in the province, possibly caused by typhoons Yagi and Bebinca.
The storm, which arrived on Monday, has been described by Chinese media as the most powerful storm to hit Shanghai in 75 years.
More than 400,000 people were evacuated ahead of high winds and torrential rain that left roads flooded and some homes without power. The AP reported.
Meanwhile, schools and roads were closed and thousands of flights were cancelled.
